Errol's adventure notebook: The Crypt of Green Shadows
Errol: "There are my notes. I sometimes scribble down some notes when I have some spare time... ;-)
Apologies for the bad style, I don't have time to write chronicles while I fight spectral demons and whatnot!"
Entering the Crypt of Green Shadows, we are at the crossroads room at the bottom of the stairs: 3 doors for N,E,and W.
Took the eastern door: a dead worm is in the tunnel but we can't see much else due to some magical darkness obliterating everything.
Three octopus-like creatures (Gricks) attack us unsuccessfully. Progressing in the tunnel, we meet three Shadow Fey Guardians. One of them, Tilmarandë, tells us that their leader Zaraka got killed earlier. The room where we found the guardians has some statues and tapestries with writings describing three heroes (Krythitas the elf paladin, Hassan the human wizard & Tymande Firestorm the half-elf Warlock.). Nathia is suddenly inspired by the picture of the female Warlock Tymande who has her arms crossed and does the same: a secret door opens! Just like that: a picture of an elder guardian comes out to reveal a narrow tunnel that leads to the final room through a sarcophagus. In the room, the spirit of Tymande is being attacked by the evil worm people and their leader, the worm demon (Suffragan). A battle ensues. A guardian, Greeba and Nathia kill the Suffragan really quickly. I hide behind a pillar and sneakily attack the Gricks. Eamon kills another one. We win!
The wraith of Tymande is angry but I manage to calm her down and she vanishes in her room.
Nathia opens another sarcophagus on the other side of the room.
A mummy of Tymande is yielding a Dagger of Venom. Nathia takes it for the time being as she desperately needs a magic weapon to hit these spectral monsters properly.
Through a corridor of bloody goo, we kind of loop back towards our starting point: the room has a slab of white marble at its centre with a cauldron of spices to purify the three dead bodies. Reading the clues around, we realise that we need to perform a purification ritual for the corpses (including Hassan) to allow the spirits to leave this plane.
We move onto the North room and arrive in another mausoleum-type room: 3 corpses of guardians lie on the ground with a heap of worms in the middle. A wraith is also there and, realising they belong to one of the three dead mummies in the next room, Nathia manage to convince it to be carried to the purification room so that we perform the ritual.
On our way, we get ambushed by 8 zombies. They are only 100 years old (freshies, yay!). We kill them but bloody hell, they are resilient!
We meet the spirit of Hassan and his 2 acolytes. At first, we anger them (their eyes go all bright red) but we showed them their weapons and they eventually calmed down.
The last room is the treasure room. It has two doors and is split in 2 by a force field that Xarius cunningly manages to switch off for us so we can kill the monsters in there all together. We have a tendency to split the group and, because it is the best thing to do, we continue because some of us want to stay near the treasure to avoid other group members to raid it and some others do the right thing and walk to the purification room as quickly as possible before Hassan and his acolytes come to the treasure room to kill the half group left behind. When the wraiths enter the room, I chicken out and run my ass off instead of resisting because there is no way we will live alive from that room. Greeba also barely manages to escape thanks to Xarius who is the unfortunate one to be caught up by the wraiths in spite of being invisible.
As the wraiths are almost catching up with Greeba and sealing her fate, Nathia, Gorlock and Eamon decide to go all in and start the purification ritual: great choice as the wraith disappear and the bodies of Hassan and Co can finally rest in peace and Greeba is saved!
Unfortunately, Xarius was turned to dust when the wraith slain him and cannot be revived or salvaged.
Note to self: we really need to stick together as a group even when we think we are out of danger and the treasure is in front of us...
